This anime surprised me. I loved the setting of the story and the characters feel like they truly belong in this world, taking the narrative seriously.

The animation was also great, I didn't expect much from the studio, but they did a pretty good job. The art style is pretty good too and I like that the makers clearly put effort into making this show.

While the story isn't particularly unique and it doesn't feel like they're trying to be, it's enjoyable enough with some really good emotional beats.

The opening was okay, but there are spoilers in it so watch out for those. looking forward to ... seeing where this story ends up.

Sword Of The Demon Hunter was a very welcome surprise, especially after such a lackluster season that was Winter 2025. I came into this expecting it to be good..but just that, but honestly if the rest of the episodes are as good as the first 3 are, I think it could be one of the best new shows for Spring 2025.

Plot:
If I described the entire plot, I would just spoil the first episode. So I'll give you the stupefied version instead.

Jinta and his sister, Suzune live with their abusive father who beats on her because she has a demon eye. They escape from the ... house and run into a man who happens to be the husband and bodyguard to the current Itsukihime. They also have a daughter named Shirayuki who's to be the next Itsukihime once her mother dies, which surprise surprise, she does. Time skip around a decade later and now Jinta and Shirayuki are grown, while Suzune is still the same since she's you know...half-demon, which makes her age slowly. Shirayuki is now the Itsukihime and Jinta is one of her bodyguards, and that's where I'll stop. Anymore and I'd just spoil the first episode. Just know that events lead to Jinta going on a 170 year journey hunting demons in order to find his sister.

characters:
I really like these characters, they're nothing we haven't seen before, but they're likable. Jinta is your stoic protagonist, but he still has a heart and will listen to peoples backstories and engage in conversation, and he even lets the demons give him their name before he kills them. How nice of him.
Suzune sadly I can't say much right now since they write her out of the show after the first episode, but as long as they don't make her full bloodthirsty heartless demon, I think she could be an interesting character.

I also like the side characters we've been introduced to so far, especially the demon, Mosuke introduced in episode 3 who's just a guy trying to blend in with humanity to live a peaceful life who's also hunting the same demon Jinta is because it killed his wife. Which I love, I love when the monsters in anime are portrayed more complex than just mindless monsters, and they have a more not everything is black and white element. That's why I adore 'Shiki' so much, the humans and vampires are both assholes but also have sympathetic characters in the mix.

art/animation:
This is where it falters a little, while not bad by any means, the animation hasn't impressed me at all either. The art on the other hand is great, I love how dark everything is, and the demons look amazing. I was a little worried when I saw the studio was Yokohama Animation Lab since they don't have the best track record, but no, Sword Of The Demon Hunter is great so far.

Conclusion:
This is not a Demon Slayer clone, which is what I initially thought. It's set in a similar period, and both Tanjiro and Jinta hunt demons, plus the demons are a little bit more complex than just "bloodthirsty killer" in both, but that's where the similarities end. I honestly think this might have a better story and characters than Demon Slayer, while Demon Slayer will top it in art and animation alone.
I really like Sword Of The Demon Hunter and hopefully the rest of the episodes maintain the same quality.

While the premise of demon hunters in feudal Japan is familiar, Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho elevates this genre through its profound storytelling and masterful plot twists. The characters themselves are impressively well-rounded. Jinya, the protagonist, embodies both strength and vulnerability, while the ing cast avoids stereotypes and displays authentic human flaws. Their reactions to crises — whether grief, fear, or resolve — feel genuine and reinforce the realism within the fantasy setting.

Beyond its technical strengths, the series’ emotional resonance ensures it will appeal to a wide audience. Fans of historical fantasy, intricate plots, and character-driven stories will undoubtedly appreciate it. Even those less familiar with the genre may be drawn in by its thoughtful exploration of loyalty, sacrifice, and destiny.

In sum, Kijin Gentosho sures expectations with its compelling twists, relatable characters, fitting visuals, and emotional depth. It is not merely entertaining — it is unforgettable. For these reasons, it earns a well-deserved 10/10.

I decided what I would watch in the Spring 2025 season by watching the PV of every anime in it. At first, I didn't have much higher expectations, so I decided to lower my bar... then the PV for Kijin Gentoushou came like a blast and made me realize that good anime is good anime, no bar-lowering needed.

Kijin Gentoushou is an ambitious story, and I don't say that solely from it coming from a premise of being a very LONG-running story spanning a LONG time-frame, but from the fact that, similar to other anime nowadays such as Oshi no Ko, Re:Zero Season 3 and Frieren, ... it decided to start with a multiple-episode long "first episode" despite not having the recognizability of those three. That choice made sense: That story NEEDS to be long to establish the bases for the anime, but at the same time it does not represent what the story IS, so having it as two or three separate episodes could give people a wrong idea of what Kijin Gentoushou is trying to be, in a way that the official episodes 2-6, which cover the second book, do much better.

In part I speak of experience: Though I know that much of book one was cut and the source material is likely better, much of the anime's episode one made it feel... Korean? That mostly come from my negative image of Korean works, but once it started with the ultra-violence between demons while they acted in less reasonable ways than a Newtype in the Gundam universe, it REALLY felt that it was going into the "OP protagonist edgefest" realm. Luckily, I couldn't have been more wrong!

From the end of episode one, we already know that our protagonist is still very human and didn't give it to his most base desires. In a way, this fact makes the next episodes, which are there to explore a journey of him "getting back his humanity" to feel a bit different: Though the closest story in that regard would be Berserk, Jinya never "lost as much humanity" as Guts did, so in his "quest to regain his humanity" he's... already starting from a very high baseline.
That might feel "off" to a few people: Book two mainly explores his questioning of what truly means to be human, and that some demons can be more "human" than some humans, though those are the types of stories you would expect if Jinya had some form of hate-boner for each and every demon, which he never did, being very level-headed ever since episode two.
While I would prefer that such character development had happened on-screen rather than between books, it also made it possible for the episodes to be how they were.

Kijin Gentoushou is "efficient" with it's characters: It could have easily been a(n inferior) story where characters only appear in one episode, and never again, but it truly makes a nice re-use of them in various different occasions, which ties back to Jinya's "return of humanity": A human must live in society together with people, don't they?
The story has multiple opportunities to "fall to some vices", but never does, with even a scene of Jinya killing rapists feeling less like a power-fantasy and more like him fulfilling a promise to people he knew deeply, almost as if he had "lived through their memories" ;).

It truly is a story about killing demons, it just happens that the focus is on killing the "inner" ones.

It's a detective noir with serialized episodes, placed in feudal japan with demons or whatever. Our boy takes a case, does his snooping, meets a few characters - some recurring, he figures it out and makes a plan. He is probably going to get a Mulder pretty soon, if I had to guess. Dialog isn't just drowning me with expo. It has a point, and may have a few. It is samurai vs demon X-Files.

Mostly writing this review because it is a great show, thus far. 7.5 because dweebs think it's Demon Slayer is trashy, and I want to fix it.

Gets better and better. Go in with an open mind, the first episode or two give you the general world & background, and quickly fast forwards to adulthood. What separates this from something "more" action packed, is that it seems we get at least an episode of background or reasoning before the action episode in all it's gory detail.

I personally appreciate the pacing, and am sure it will watch even better when it's all done and you don't have to wait for the resolution to the various cases at hand. In the meantime this definitely seems to be in the top two of the ... season, and has potential to be even more, depending how it plays out.

Definitely recommend, is a bit different from all the others. Not an Isekai! :)

Keeping it short and sweet, it's a bit like kimetsu no yaiba, it plays itself out with a mature tone, good pacing and arguably better writing- if you liked demon slayer but could do without the comedy and child catering i think you'll enjoy this more; props to the writer of this.

The animation isn't on the same level as demon slayer however it isn't being lazy whatsoever and it does the story justice, big recommend.

The Main character is likeable, speaks his mind and doesn't have any of the inhuman quirks MCs normally have that would make a normal person want to bash their head in, ... in fact none of the characters do, they're written like normal people ( thank god ).

Minor encounters in one period echo through generations, shaping ideologies, grudges, and the spiritual evolution of its characters. It’s a story where patience is rewarded—threads that appear insignificant early on return with impactful ... relevance.

The visuals serve the tone: clean, measured, and atmospheric, rarely overwhelming but always appropriate to the story’s emotional weight. While the animation is not groundbreaking, it s the storytelling without distraction. The soundtrack, too, is restrained yet effective, often enhancing moments of reflection rather than overpowering them.

Voice performances subtly shift across the timeline, emphasizing the maturity and burden of characters shaped by their era. Dialogue often feels poetic, especially in moments that reflect on morality, duty, and the impermanence of human life.

If there’s a flaw, it’s that the pacing may seem slow to those seeking constant excitement. But for those who value narrative complexity and thematic depth, Kijin Gentoushou offers a rare treat: a story that honors its past while constantly building toward its future.

I might be yapping, but I get a frieren vibe from this anime but with a totally different approach. Starting this anime, i thought it would be about slaying demons, avenging someone and so on. But what I realized is that this isn't about that. The premice goes along that line but the following episodes are more about life lessons learned through encounters then about revenge. It's about the journey more than about beating the bad guys. It's quite different from others animes of the same genre. It's quite refreshing. Then again, this is written with the fact that only 5 or 6 episodes have ... aired, so some things might change.

Thank God its similarity to Demon Slayer turned out to be in the title only. Now I feel silly for avoiding such a great anime.

In the comments I see many people are confused by the stark contrast between the first and the rest of the episodes. I'll try to explain what this story seems to me so you'll know what to expect too.

The first episode tells a story of children who ran away from home and found a new one. They meet new friends, grow up and then tragedy strikes. With the focus on the MC's fighting skills it is easy to jump to a ... conclusion that this'd be another action-packed revenge story. And then the rest of the episodes (up to the 10th at the time of this review) are rather slow paced and melancholic. The reason for this is that the MC is now immortal and just waits for centuries to . To some that doesn't sound too exciting but this anime has depth that I expected and failed to find in Frieren after all this hype. So for me this is like Frieren 2.0 where the MC is trying to live his life despite the tragedy and he lacks a clear goal (unlike said Demon Slayer) so only in his interactions with another characters we can at times glimpse his innermost thoughts. Not all of the information is presented in a straightforward manner, sometimes you have to think about stuff, which adds an air of mystery. The nighttime color palette reinforces that feeling with intense darkness being contrasted with colourful elements that add to the melancholy vibe.

The story spans a period of almost 200 years from 1830 to present time. Of course most of the characters MC meets are mortal so it is very touching to see echoes from the past reaching him as he lives on. Though I did laugh when his long dead acquaintance pulled one over on him at the end of episode 10.

I cannot say how it goes from there, maybe I'll update my review when more episodes come out, but so far this has been great. I never expected such deep storytelling from an anime. I encourage you to give it a try.

Spring 2025, in my opinion, isn't as good as Winter 2025 was. There aren't as much big hitting, well-known IPs (Dr. Stone, Solo Leveling, Sakamoto Days) as Winter 2025 did. And I came into this season thinking it'd be pretty weak. With one of the best animes I've ever watched (Orb) ending finally last season, I expected there wouldn't be another dark horse for this Spring season. At least, I thought there wouldn't be one, until Kijin Gentoushou came into view.

I felt compelled to write this review early on because it's a shame how undeservedly under-the-radar this anime is. Sure, the animation isn't as good ... as most shounen manga-adaptation animes, but Orb just showed last season that when the storyline and characters are executed beautifully, the animation doesn't matter as much. So it's kinda sad seeing Kijin Gentoushou not getting the treatment as Orb did (word-of-mouth recognition).

The story follows Jinta, a young man from the Edo period, who served as the guardian to a village and its shrine, of which he was originally an outsider of. After a series of tragic events that were orchestrated by demons occurred in the said village, he goes to wander as a ronin, earning a living as a demon slayer. Since then, Jinya has become a man with only purpose in life: to kill demons, and make them answer for what happened to his village. Along the way, Jinya meets different people that show him there is more to life than just killing demons, and that he doesn't have to be bound by what he considers his purpose.

The anime is well-done in regards to its characters. Jinta feels like someone who really doesn't have anything going for his life after everything he's went through, and even the short-lived characters in the first episode were well developed. Of particular note is Shirayuki, who sees her purpose as something she must adhere to. Not out of duty, or obligation, but because she feels it is right. Of course, there is a flaw to that kind of thinking, which is how the story finds its ground. This anime's story understands that even when a character only appears for one episode, as long as you know how to develop your characters and give them a purpose beyond just a plot device, that character can still stay with you for a long time. Of course, all of this is also possible due to the 1-hour episode premiere.

Jinta's journey after leaving his village is also something I must give this anime praise for. He meets different people who have different outlooks in life, some of which impart him with a powerful lesson that helps shape his character. Every mini-arc, even though only lasting 2 to 3 episodes at most, doesn't feel like a waste because Jinta has something to gain after each arc that helps us audience sympathize and connect with him more.

Throughout the anime, we also meet different demons who are beyond just evil. The anime has done a nice job building its world by showing these demons interact with Jinta. Some demons can even make you feel sympathetic, which I feel this anime has done very well.

For the plot, it isn't something that's never been done before like Orb did, but man it's got the emotional beats and theme to make up for it (and it even knows how to spin a tearjearking tale or a wholesome one every once in a while!). It knows where its going, it knows when to slow down to develop its character, and it also knows when to write off a character without feeling like killing them off just for the sake of advancing the plot. The author certainly knows when a character has garnered enough point for the audience to feel something towards when its time for them to say goodbye, and I applaud them for that.

The technical side is where things are a bit rough. Visuals are good (sometimes even amazing). The atmosphere of the story really shows it being in Edo period, and with different seasons, it knows when to deliver that feeling of ancient history. However, the animation isn't as impressive. It's more on par with what you see of seasonal animes, but as I've said, if an anime delivers well enough on its story character, then you won't even notice the animation that much.

Overall, I recommend you all watch it. Spread the word of Kijin Gentoushou. I'd love for this anime to get more seasons, and it being left behind like this isn't right.

Kijin Gentoushou is an anime that presents a rich blend of action, supernatural elements, and intriguing character dynamics, making it a captivating watch for fans of the genre.

On the positive side, The animation is great, with beautiful scenery and smooth fight scenes.The characters are deep and have unique backstories, making the story more engaging. The mood is tense and gripping, keeping viewers interested.

On the negative side, however,The pacing is sometimes slow, with some episodes feeling too long. The story can be confusing because it introduces too many ideas and characters too quickly. Some cool concepts aren’t fully explored, which might leave viewers wanting more.

The story kicks off in Edo‐period, where our plucky heroine Suzune—blessed with half-demon blood—is relentlessly shunned and side eyed by her "own" dad. Big brother Jinta, allergic to injustice (and apparently decent), absconds with her and they crash with a widowed father and his bright Not-Mary Sue daughter, Shirayuki, in the remote village of Kadono. All goes well until a pair of petty demons, masters of relationship sabotage, trick Suzune into believing Shirayuki’s plotting to betray Jinta’s heart. Long story short, Suzune offloads Shirayuki, and now furious, Jinta the only person who she cared about (maybe a bit too much ♥~(˵ ͡~ ͜ʖ. ͡°˵) *pachi*) ... cold shoulders her and tries to kill her (out of human decency), driving Suzune to plot world destruction out of spite. Torn between fratricidal hatred and his familial love for his sister, Jinta, now a wandering demon killing ronin, embarks on a 170-year globe-trotting sabbatical: mastering “how there’s more to life than sister-killing” (Like enjoying some flower symbolism), boosting his empathy stats, and seriously dulling his Edge[lord] before the ultimate bro-versus-sis Mortal Kombat.

The themes of the work are the impermanence of things (as quoted by Not-Mary Sue's dad), love that transcends time (with all the wisteria petals flying around), and a journey of understanding and broadening one's horizons on life (As taught by Not-Willow, Not-Sakura). Sounds like your standard "find my feelings, understand life, find myself" slop, so why should you watch this when frieren's probably coming back next season? Hmmmm...seems like it's a drama with some cinematic qualities to it, some beautiful looking visuals with detailed foregrounds (mid-spatially), good colouring sense and grading, competent use of hazes (and the components that define it), some beautiful applications of cool-warm contrasts throughout (trad jap lamp incandescents vs environ), and glowing purple wisterias and dull wailing willows abound. As a show, it looks decently good and it's cinematic, so is it peak cinema or just peak Vibes and hipster haze? Chouun-chama shall investigate… with great great skepticism pero~


To start with, the MC falls on the chadlette spectrum, so don't expect any subtle emotional responses from him towards situations, he won't be any more refreshingly organic than chadlettes in other such artsy "peak cinema" titles. Chadlette-kun is far better than the Manhwa Peak Chad™ but he's chadlette enough to deflate the emotional weight in any emotional scene through a preponderance of poorly crafted inhuman and weak emotional responses to events and opinions that pile up over the show, which also tards the pacing. The Chad spectrum disorder, in its milder forms, suppresses subtle emotional responses that don’t align with the animanga and related mediums' Chad persona; in more severe cases, it completely eliminates meaningful character interactions (see Manhwa examples like Pick Me Up or Dungeon Odyssey, because there's no better medium that captures this inhumanity better than manhwa even in titles that are otherwise creative and have a lot going for it). Chadlettes can even twist the empathy based values on which such stories rely to be relatable and non obnoxious and make them bad as compromising, tolerating, understanding, being hurt and still holding to values is tough and detract from their "chadlette-ness", and is also tough to execute (see manhwa FFF class trashhero, MC isn't wrong, it's the corrupted world that literally conspired to make him so). You can’t write playful dynamics or have genuine vulnerability between characters when one of them is operating on the Chad spectrum.

The result from the above is hipster philosophising with the depth taken out as its depth comes from the depth of the characters and their struggle which is shown through their emotional responses. So situations/events where even when the philosophical moment is solid, you can't feel any weight in it. It essentially destroys the organic structure of an emotional story such as this. It's further exacerbated by the little things, an example of this from the show would be:
The first episode moving forward to the future and highlighting that this is a story that the MC tells to someone in the future 170 years from now, that it's a recounted tale of his journey. But instead of using a conversation in the future as a launchpad to tell the various tales, the show abruptly shows the future character, the show then quickly comes back to the past after showing the person to whom he will recount the story, skips 3 years even in the past and starts the journey again.

The story doesn't flow well. These small choppy inorganic moments combine with the choppiness introduced by the MC's character to deflate the emotional weight of the story. They are issues borne from the cinematic vision of the anime, not the source. I had an inkling seeing the confession scene and how the first scene with the servant on episode 2 started that made him seem central to the arc, which he wasn't, it works in an actual movie if it's the first scene of the movie to start it and then relegate the guy to the background. Here's the scene difference from the manga for your convenience to further butress and drive the points till now home: Refer to chapter 4 of the kijin gentoushou manga and contrast it with the moment starting 23:40 in the first episode of the anime. Refer the ending scene of the anime with the time skip to the future and contrast it with chapter 11 of the manga. That's more than enough to drive the point home.

Does this mean, I think the source material is superior or the manga is superior? not at all, I would think the manga's even worse, with poor pacing and a duller experience. It's relevance is in pointing out the inorganic nature of the screenplay and characters. If the show was a bit more organic and only didn't create a chadlette out of the MC in adapting it, it would still be a decent style over substance show because of its visual direction. It had the potential to be decent, which the manga did not even though it's more organic. The anime also frontloads the themes a lot, delivering it episode by episode and rushes developments like the MC becoming suddenly so much more understanding in ep 2 regarding his father's dislike of his half sister, its logical that a person grows with time, but in fiction you need to show this through some device, but again this is a point in the vein of it being inorganic once again.

Another aspect that further buttresses the point above is that while the show hints at exploring the theme of everlasting love, it won't do it in either of the two ways in which you'd like to see it:
1. A future reincarnation of his love interest with whom the MC weaves a new love story. It's precluded by the fact the staff didn't find it necessary to adapt the recounting part in the future, and that the tale moves with 3-4 year skips which also mean an age by age and era by era skip. it's that kind of "learn through experience on a journey through time" story.
2. His love interest is not a driving force in affecting his values and life lessons so far, and the major themes have already been introduced. There's a lack of weight in that "love that transcends time" so far despite all the wisterias blooming.
So you're certainly not seeing it for this aspect.

The MC's sister transforms into a hot demon who has incestual feelings for him, and it's a story of the MC being on a demon hunting quest to gain power and confront her, but nothing truly visceral or new is going to come out of it because:
1. The theme of love transcending time is not regarding the sister, but probably regarding his hipster tier vow with Mary Sue made worse by the anime. That's why the "nothing remains the same" and wisteria symbolism co-exist in the same episode. I don't hate my sister anymore, nothing remains the same. Done.
2. It's a find myself and appreciate life story which also takes narrative space aside from the familial love aspects which relegates his story with his sister to someone he overcomes his hatred for and spares. It's not a tale of the two, don't expect anything enjoyable and unpretentious from their dynamic.
3. The chad nature of the MC itself is a further confirmation that it's a story of forgiveness, not of acceptance, and the writing lacks the unpretentious and unashamed larger than life character where the author would execute what he wants another way with values of empathy. Don't expect an umineko like acceptance and the MC ending up with his imouto in a melancholic 'fire punch' kind of format (the bits with the tree and eternity with imouto lookalike).

All in all, the only thing you could do and do right would be an emotional style over substance plot combining the cinematic direction of the show with organic emotional aspects of the original. Any other original approach for organic emotions minus chadlette spectrum experiments work too, considering chadlette humanising requires the kind of writing ability to make right which the industry severely lacks. Btw Did i mention the show has the MC do random short fetchquests tier demon slaying quests ep by ep for random clients with their sob story mixed into those fetchquest arcs.

Another topic I thought I should broach at the end due to its lack of importance is the animation, there's discussion that the action scenes belong to the "Samurai Chopping fruits By teleporting past them" school of thought, put more specifically to this case a non coherently flowing action, but it's a trivial and inconsequential aspect of the visual side of the show. The big fights with demons aren't exactly an appeal at the core of the show. In battle shounens and the like, the structures that create an expectation of a good fight are one's expectations of battle stakes, of getting stronger, of overcoming a battle challenge etc, the plot progression is through battle and then emotions are tied to it and while here it is through learning experiences and emotional resonance from the people one meets in their journey. Animation is very irrelevant, and it has its visual aesthetics down right.

It's not a show that I would recommend as good, but it's still something worth watching as a seasonal, and probably for those who are jaded and are looking for something a bit more cinematic. 6/10


Lastly, hilchryme's rap at the end with the scrolling pan of characters made me more emotional than the contents of the show itself, so give it a listen if you're skipping it.

dang!!!! didnt expect this anime to be good!

first was movie the rest was good storytelling, this is the kind of storytelling a want for decades ever since i've watched mars red episode 1(where rest episode flops lol), encountering different people with have their own story to tell and i was not expected theres also a plot twist which is surprise to me too, story is dark but mc know his action to take thats why i like the guy, the plot was same every episode but because of that were eating good with storytelling to share which makes the plot null from being bad or ... good way though its still episode 7 i dont know what will happen next, i wish later episodes they add more progress on mc's story cause next episode is the right time to start it

overalll its hella focused good storytelling so highly recommend this, also

its just my take but i think this anime has the potential to be battle anime way too, like fighting sidekick of the boss that leads to progress on his own story but they didnt do that(maybe later in epsiodes)

If you're still in your teens then I won't recommend this show to you.
However, if you're in your late 20's who has gone through a lot, then I highly recommend this.

This show is about the "theme of life" - Reuniting with Family, Letting go of your past, Accepting yourself, Belongingness, Forgiveness, Dealing with your emotions and the like. It's very dialogue heavy and there are so much twists so be warned that you will do a lot of reading and thinking.

The Story is incredible, the plot-twists are crazy and the fact that they are all connected is even crazier. Every episode there are plot-twists ... that you will never see coming, even though the hints are already shown multiple times during the episode.

I won't spoil much but our hero is Jinya- a Demon Swordsman who travels around Japan to kill demons. He meets a lot of people that needs help, resulting in unfolding stories that connects to each other. There are actions and fights but its not the main focus point.

I would rate eps 1-6 as 7 and eps 7-9 as 9
So don't have high expectations from the early episodes, but once you get to know the people around our hero and the twists that will happen around them then you will understand.

Review
I've been thoroughly enjoying this anime, despite some initial reservations. The first three episodes were incredible, and as the series progressed, it continued to captivate me. One of the standout aspects is the unexpected connections and twists in each demon case Jinya investigates. The unpredictability keeps me on the edge of my seat, and I appreciate the effort to subvert expectations.

Characters and Realism
The characters are well-developed, with distinct personalities and flaws. Jinya's character is intriguing.The ing cast also adds depth to the story, making the world feel more immersive.

Art Style and Visuals
The Samurai-themed visuals are stunning, and the historical setting is meticulously detailed. The animation ... style perfectly complements the narrative, transporting viewers to feudal Japan.

Overall Assessment
While I wouldn't say the story is entirely unique, the execution and pacing make it compelling. I'm currently rating it 7/10, but I'm optimistic that it will improve as the series unfolds. Fans of historical anime and samurai themes will likely appreciate this series, even if it doesn't entirely break new ground.

If you enjoy historical anime, mystery, or samurai-themed stories, this series is worth checking out. The unexpected twists and engaging characters make it a worthwhile watch, even if it's not perfect.

Started off promising in the first few minutes. I thought it was going to be an adult quality story...but by end of first episode...the story developed in a childish and infantile way. It's a bummer. It's not great. The visuals are good but doesn't have that story to go along with.

The initial plot was good. Brother and sister escape abuse and go into the world. Then get adopted by a "sentinel". this opens the children to ing the family business of guarding the village. You are lead to believe it's going to be a story about two runaway children finally growing up in a household ... with love. Their new "sister" becomes their family. Then one day they need to sacrifice their family life in order to fulfill the family obligation of protecting the village.
Sounds all good right?

That story ends in the first episode lol. The "real" show now begins...and you're basically left with your standard ronin wandering the plains going from village to village looking to hunt demons. The characters and plot is not interesting enough to go through this merry go round again for another show.

However, you might enjoy it as the standard anime fan would. But if you're someone who likes a serious quality plot like orb movement of the earth, look elsewhere. The writing itself is very juvenile in comparison.

GOD DAMN, the subtitles for this anime are terrible, from both HiDive and Amazon. Bilibili has slightly better.
Absolute brain-rot localization, as if you are watching a british show from the 90's.
If you have even a slight understanding of japanese, you will find it hard to listen to the dialogue and then to read the hellish tarnation the subtitles are.

Enough for the platforms, now for the anime.

Starts well with Episode 1, but then time skips some years and goes on episodic with the story. 10 episodes in, you get another 150 years of time skip for no reason. It gets really boring, since nothing of importance ... seems to happen and our MC just "lives his life", contemplating... nothing seemingly. He barely talks, his thoughts are not really shown. His motivation goes "poof" with the first time skip. He probably lives, just because he is breathing.
Side characters are bit more interesting, but after the 150 skip into the future, they become less relevant.

It seems to be mostly telling the life of the MC.
But you do not see what keeps him on going. I do not see any struggle, be it emotional or physical.

There is also sudden drop in animation quality at around episode 4. The best quality is in episode 1 which is expected, since its a pilot episode with movie length.

I think i will forget everything about this anime in few weeks. It is just quite unremarkable.
