Shinmai Ossan Boukensha, Saikyou Party ni Shinu hodo Kitaerarete Muteki ni Naru.

Determined to pursue his glorious childhood dreams, 30-year-old Rick Gladiatol, a modest clerk in the adventurers' guild, is offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after he fatefully encounters the dark elf Reanette Elfelt. Reanette happens to be an elite adventurer of the legendary party Orichalcum Fist, whose welcome Rick under the condition that he follow a Spartan training.

Two years later, Rick is finally ready to take the E-Rank exam officially qualifying him as an adventurer. However, raw magical power can only be developed until one turns 20. As such, Rick faces the general hostility of fellow participants and examiners alike, leaving him no choice but to show the world that his hellish training has turned him into an invincible warrior.

This anime surprised me. From the outside it looked like another generic fantasy anime with an OP mc. However, this anime breaks away from these cliches. For one, the mc isn't the strongest, there are at least 4 people stronger than he his. Also he realizes very quickly that he is very powerful compared to the average fighter. He doesn't spend the entire show oblivious of his true strength unlike a certain Parrying anime. The mc also mentors other fighters to become stronger. Overall I enjoyed this anime. The animation was good and I will definitely be waiting for a season 2.

Mixed Feelings

Despite this show's greatest efforts is to be as generic and uninteresting as possible, I was still able to get a bit of enjoyment out of it. The anime follows the protagonist Rick who is trying to become an adventurer in his early thirties. People tell him he's too old, but he doesn't give up.

As someone also in their early thirties, the theme resonated with me. Often I can feel that I missed out on a lot of things when I was younger, but that's the wrong mindset. It's never too late to start out something new, and improve yourself. Despite the personal theme, the ... show is quite generic. Despite him starting out at an older age, he's already stronger than everyone else, as you can infer from the title. So we got the overpowered MC who plows through all the doubters, as you expect from this type of show. It's about as entertaining as it usually is, but this show doesn't give much else.

The characters are boring, and mostly just archetypes. You have an immature little girl who is OP, and some woman who dresses and acts like a maid for some reason. I did like the Orc though. You've also got a few of the snobby nobles, who are basically cartoon villains'. They try to redeem one later, but it didn't feel natural to me, and I felt they just wanted to give her more screen time since she was a woman for fanservice reasons.

Speaking of fanservice, it's kinda out of place and embarrassing here. Due to the theme I thought this may try to be a more mature show, but they've got a handful of immature boob jokes, and it makes me wonder why I'm even watching this. It's not as bad, outside of the character designs and the handful of jokes, but it just feels so out of place.

Anyway, I did get through it, and I enjoyed it well enough despite all it's shortcomings. The theme was nice, and if there was a second season I may at least check it out. If you're looking for something exciting/new then keep looking I guess.

Shinmai Ossan Boukensha, Saikyou Party ni Shinu hodo Kitaerarete Muteki ni Naru feels like a shallow attempt to capture the same magic as One-Punch Man but falls short in almost every way. The protagonist comes off as hollow, with an empty sense of justice that seems to lack any real foundation or depth. Even after watching several episodes, it's still unclear what truly drives the main character. Their motivations feel superficial and directionless, leaving viewers disconnected from the story.

The ing characters are decent but nothing special. Like the protagonist, they are overpowered, and the entire team feels like an unbeatable force with no real struggles. ... The plot boils down to a rinse-and-repeat cycle of training, fighting monsters, defeating villains, and protecting the innocent. And that’s about it. I’ve just summed up the entire show in a few lines—there’s really nothing more to it. It's bland and generic.

At least with One-Punch Man, the series knew what it was and leaned into its own absurdity. This show, on the other hand, seems lost, unsure of what it wants to be. It lacks the self-awareness that made other overpowered protagonist series more enjoyable. In the end, Shinmai Ossan Boukensha is hollow, with little to offer beyond surface-level entertainment.
