School Rumble

Just the words "I love you," and everything changes—such is the nature of the bittersweet trials of high school romance. Tenma Tsukamoto, a second year, is on a quest to confess her feelings to the boy she likes. Kenji Harima, a delinquent with a sizable reputation, is in a similar situation, as he cannot properly convey his feelings to the one he loves. Between school, friends, rivalries, and hobbies, these two will find that high school romance is no walk in the park, especially as misunderstandings further complicate their plight.

School Rumble is a high-octane romantic comedy full of relatable situations, as Tenma and Kenji both try to win the hearts of those they desire.

Hate watching those anime that drag on for too long with boring storylines? Then try School Rumble, each episode is totally random, even though it does try to follow a main storyline.

As the story goes on, it becomes more and more hilarious! I wished my high school was as fun as this. It portrays as guys being very pathetic and always going after girls, this makes them very funny to watch! The jokes are very humorous; some is just silly.

The animation is very beautiful, although it has more beautiful girls and the boys are all very weird. The ... animals drawn are very cute and the main character is such a klutz, her face turns fat all the time.

The background sounds are funny, adds comedy to the scene. The soundtrack is just as good, the music is very soothing. The voice characters are just funny and the voices are exaggerated very much, which give the impression that the character is very dumb.

The characters are very distinct; I get confused sometimes because there are many characters and a lot of names to . I only Harima Kenji because the English version of this name is Harry McKenzie. But his character was the funniest out of all the boys in the class, he is supposed to be a delinquent but then turns all soft and lovey dovey, and the girl he falls for is an average looking slow girl, which makes it all so much funnier because he is dumb as well.

This is very enjoyable if you like to watch comedy genres, and don't mind the occasional half naked scenes. There were many scenes where I was cracking up; this anime has to be the funniest I’ve seen and the most random.

Highly recommended for boys more than girls because it has a lot of big breasts involved. It’s just too damn funny!

Mixed Feelings

The description on MAL isn’t very good, so I kinda went into this anime expecting something different. I thought this anime was about a girl and a delinquent who loved each other, but couldn’t confess. Instead, it’s basically an anime about love triangles, as the first instance is the aforementioned girl falling for someone else, then the delinquent falling for her. From there, a good chunk of the rest of the characters have their own crushes and love triangles that sometimes even get mixed together. It even starts leaving the main girl and her crush behind to explore all the other ones (which is good ... because I was starting to get fatigue from them after watching Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun not too long ago).

Combined with all the love in the air is all of the characters doing whacky things, which is where the absurdist comedy comes in. It can be something as simple as getting into a fight over some stupid misunderstanding, or as out there as amassing a herd of wild animals. The best part is that the writers keep all of these things in as canon instead of making them for a gag and discarding them afterwards. When a head is shaved off, it stays shaved off and the character actually has to deal with it. This combined with all the crushes combined with the likable personalities of the girls/delinquent make the anime completely wild and fun. It also has some serious moments that can be quite investing, too.

However, School Rumble has a huge problem: nearly every male character except the delinquent is a pervert. Even if there aren’t that many guys that are main characters, the anime makes sure to have students saying/doing gross things like talking about someone’s cup size to spying on them…or harassing the girls by doing these things while they’re there. It’s so prevalent that it felt like I was uncomfortable for half the anime, or at least never comfortable for long. It’s played for comedy, but the perverts only sometimes get what they deserve and it’s obviously not funny in the first place, so it just ends up soiling an otherwise fun anime.

School Rumble definitely has its strengths, as it goes above and beyond with its silly scenarios and has a very likable female cast. However, I can't recommend it if you dislike pervert characters since they’re consistently given the spotlight.

I tried! I TRIED!!!!!!!

I tried to like this anime but I really couldn't, I tried to laugh I couldn't,

I love romance/comedies but school rumble was just to zany and random for me.Even though I finished the first season I felt like I was forcing myself to watch it from the beginning. The plot goes no where and I know that's not the main purpose THE MAIN PURPOSE IS TO LUAGH but I never got one good chuckle from my self and it came to a point where I was trying to force myself to laugh.

Some episodes left me dumbfounded on how random the events ... were and if that's the purpose of this show then this show is just not for me. I had to stop watching early on into season 2, I was really trying to make myself like this show but I couldn't. One day I might give this show another try but as of right now I'm putting this series back on my book shelf.
