Love Live! Sunshine!! Maru no 4-koma is a series divided into two parts : the first is the full color 4-koma which was made directly by Sakurako Kimino, the original creator of the Love Live franchise ; the second part is an extended version of these 4-koma in standard manga format illustrated by Toshio Takenouchi as his first serialized comic.

What you'll get are 18 short stories told from the perspective of 1st year Hanamaru Kunikida, although there are still a number of stories centered around other of Aquours so you don't especially need to be a fan of our munching goddess to enjoy this.

If ... there's one thing you're probably afraid of, it's that having the same stories told twice in a row would feel very repetitive, and I'm not going to argue against that because it is the case despite new dialogues and new scenes being added into it. Toshio Takenouchi is not a talented artist and his style doesn't add a lot to the pre-existing 4-koma, not that his art is bad but it's not anything special apart from it being "cute", I don't like to use that as a derogatory term but the designs as well as the different expressions are as basic as it goes. It still does the job though and the different punchlines flow relatively well ; if you don't go in with very high standards, chances are you'll enjoy this, especially since the stories manage to be creative at times and that the personalities and interactions between the of aqours are respected.

Maru no Yonkoma is an okayish addition to the Love Live Sunshine franchise but ultimately not necessary, the original 4-komas were fine enough on their own which makes this feels like a cashgrab to sell a few more products to the fans.
