I'd count Monogatari as, while it's non-linear it's still all part of the same story. If you're asking why the second season isn't the second season it's because... the novels are called like that. If you're going strictly by the names of the novels, then Monogatari would have 4-5 seasons (with the latter two being just parially adapted) which are: First, Second, Final, Off, and Monster. It's a mess on what to consider a season or what not, but the story itself isn't as convoluted as it seems. Although... Off and Monster feels more like a sequel series of the first three, it's confusing in that aspect.

Ah yeah got reminded of Durarara!! having 4 seasons, Haikyuu!! having 4 (5 if counting splits) and Major having 6 seasons (and a sequel series called Major 2nd)

Hello there! I want to make a suggestion for the stack with anime with most seasons.

There's a few franchises:
Monogatari - 6 full seasons, several specials in between. 113 episodes + 3 films + 1 recap film as of 2024. Might receive future seasons.
Teekyuu - 9 seasons, finished airing. 108 short episodes
Minami-ke - 5 seasons, last hasn't been aired.
Hidamari Sketch - 4 seasons + several specials in between. 60 episodes, finished.
Strike the Blood - 4 seasons. Finished.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - 4 seasons + 1 special + 1 OVA. 96 episodes, finished. (counting only canon content)

Yeah First Inspector totally qualifies, I watched it so I can confirm the episode version just abruptly cuts to credits each time, naturally from it airing in theaters first.

You also made another mistake. Gundam Thunderbolt started as an ONA series (https://myanimelist.telechargerjeux.org/anime/31973/Kidou_Senshi_Gundam_Thunderbolt), and while it got a compilation movie later, what aired on TV was just the ONA rather than the movie turned into TV show.

Also, the first 15 eps of Boruto are NOT the ones in the movie, but rather eps 51 to 66. On a similar note, episodes 2 to 27 of Dragon Ball Super adapt the movies Battle of Gods and Resurrection F.
