SO WHO`S THIS CHICK? Hello out there! Nice of you to drop by my little slice of the internet. I guess you all want some info, huh? Well no problem, I'm happy to indulge (a little, at least). I've been watching anime consistently since around 2000 (4th grade. Geez, I feel old), though I believe that my first two anime were Pokemon and Sailor Moon back in 1998. I tend to like the majority of genres in anime, though I think my favorite is a tie between Magical Girl, Sci-Fi, and Shonen, with my least favorites being Historical (Japanese historical, at least) and Sports. I try to keep up with the anime seasons as best as I can, though more than likely I'll be 2+ seasons behind. Which season I'm on is usually obvious, since I have all the shows from that season on my Watching list. (I'd also like to note that I don't accept random friend requests. I like getting to know people first, so that's that. ;D )
| REVIEWS+SCORING |
I'll be the first to it that I tend to score fairly high, but I'd like to think that it's my inner optimist trying to find a silver lining in most things. Below is how I tend to do my scoring. (I'd like to note that some dropped shows that appear on my list are shows that I watch with an anime club, so if it has a tag next to it indicating 'anime club' in some kind of context, it's just a show that we watched that week and has no bearing on how god/bad the show itself is.)

From now on, I swear that if I ever hear anyone say that the storylines of series like Kingdom Hearts or Metal Gear are confusing/complex, I will start kicking them in the shins and point them to towards the Drakengard/NieR universe. It goes from magic, to dragons, to Steins;Gate, to sudden prostitutes, to a prostitute dying near a flower, to the flower reviving the prostitute into a god, to more gods and dragons, to a human making a pact with a dragon, to a giant salt god and a dragon dimension-leaping into present-day Tokyo, to plagues that turn people into salt, to humanity rediscovering Steins;Gate, to a spiritually Gestaltized humanity, to magic/science Replicants of the Gestalts, to Gestalts dying while Replicants are fighting magical beings called Shades, to only Replicants existing, to finding the core system of Replicants still being manufactured...
...and then suddenly Earth is invaded by aliens and the space-war begins. F**king what!?!?!?

All of this, right here, is the reason why I can never get truly hooked to nearly all of Bethesda's games like Fallout and Elder Scrolls. I've been somewhat obsessed with The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky since I got it on Steam late last year and I'm not sure if I could put the reasons why any better than this guy did. Hopefully by the time I finish the first Trails in the Sky, I'll actually have the money to afford Trails in the Sky SC and food/rent at the same time. (sobs)
She is the one who'll conquer all.
She lives to be the grandest, most bombastic sorceress of them all.
Her level of fucks given is ABSOLUTE ZERO.
Her classy, grandiose theme will forever ring in your ears as the melody of the soul. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5JNqS2eiJo)
She'll steal the scene no matter where she is in this beautiful universe.
Her costume is fabulous. Her hair is magnificent. Her devilish eyes pierce through your cold, stone heart.
Her sassy voice will make you tremble to the bone.
That FUCKING BOOK-SKIRT IS INCOMPREHENSIBLE GREATNESS.
Grovel at your knees and bow down as you feel unworthiness in her presence.
You'll know and that she is Magigigika Mirdin Do Din Norurun Dou...
In other words...
SHE IS THE ONE AND ONLY MAGILOU!!!!!!
Btw, I just came to an epiphany about what's wrong with the game Tales of Zestiria that would justify an anime being made, even though there are still a ton of fans for the game itself. I watched some more cutscenes/gameplay and I realize that there was some actual thought and effort put into game, particularly in its story, lore, combat and characters (except for Alisha, they really screwed the pooch with her in the game). If anything, there are just two main problems with the game that, unfortunately, ruin it for people like me:
1. They unintentionally shot themselves in the foot in of presentation due to technical limitations. I think the developers wanted to create a way to make the cutscenes and gameplay flow seamlessly between each other, similar to how other games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Uncharted could. And, to be honest, Zestiria succeeds in doing that by having most cutscenes immediately shift into gameplay without any cutaways or sudden shifts in perspective. Unfortunately, because of that, the level of detail and scale in the cutscenes would need to match the graphic capabilities of the gameplay sections. If this is actually the case, it would explain why the facial animations are VERY stiff and why there are many indoor scenes that should be grand/epic are instead laughably small in scale. It hurts the presentation of the game/story and thus kills the investment towards what's happening.
2. Simply put, the writing for English translation was waaaay too half-assed. Not to say it's the VAs fault, rather their voices match their characters very well and their direction for the lines they're given are typically fine, too. However, the actual script for the characters' dialogue was either the victim of being 'lost in translation', or was just not given any thought in localization. It felt like the lines would work in Japanese or on paper, but they came out as awkward and empty in English. It's also obvious that the writers almost never considered the game's setting when creating dialogue. For instance, in a major cutscene, one of the main characters tells someone to "cool their jets" in a world where, as far as I'm aware, technology isn't remotely near the level where jets or engines are a concept. There is a lot of dialogue that does that and it's obvious that it's not intentional, so it breaks the immersion of a fantasy world.
Long story short: I think Zestiria's main fault is not in the story or design, but in presentation. I can't any other game where bad presentation alone could ruin a game for me, even when everything else about the game is either great or, at worst, able.

And those points are just the differences between the game and anime of the same game. There are so many other issues with the Zestiria game I keep finding that weren't at all an issue in Tales of Xillia (i.e. really stiff/awkward animations, poor sound design, laughably empty cities). What the heck happened? When the anime adaptation of a Tales game feels far more in line with the franchise than its actual game, there's something seriously wrong here.
And I'm not exaggerating when I say that the first scene of the second game (Milestone Two) is arguably one of the most jaw-dropping, mind-blowing WTF moments I've ever experienced with a video game! I highly recommend you get these VNs, especially since they're each at 75% and 50% off this week on Steam! I think you'll like it!
I need this in my life NOW!!! XD
"Get in the fucking Union, Shinji!"
*head explodes*
Here's a quick and easy on what Bravely Default job classes you should focus on, since some of them can be either useless or essential for enemies/bosses you're about to be facing:
Freelancer: Get Edea to lv 4 and NOTHING ELSE. The lv 4 skill is useful in some annoying dungeons.
Monk: Get TIZ to work on it since he has the base strength and speed to thrive off it. Lv 7 is preferable, or Lv 8 if you want Blind Immunity.
White Mage: AGNES should get priority since she has the best Mind/Healer stats. Try to get at least lv 8 for Angelic Ward (it's a useful skill for her).
Black Mage: RINGABEL should get priority since he has the best offensive magic stats. At least lv 7 for the "-ra" spells. After that, get Agnes to work on it so she can have offensive options as a WM.
Knight: NOT IMPORTANT except for the skill in lv 2 (two-handed; must-have for Edea and Tiz). If nothing else, have Edea use it since she's already a physical powerhouse.
Thief: IGNORE unless you want the speed buffs on lv 3 and 5. Steal is automatically granted, so you can have it as the secondary skill set.
Merchant: USELESS except for one skill: BP Drink. However, that move costs money and Performer has the same skill for free.
Spell Fencer: MASTER THIS CLASS!!! Especially for Tiz, Edea and (later) Ringabel. Turns your black magic into physical attacks, which is borderline game-breaking. You also get the "-ga" magic at lv 9 (far earlier than BM) and applying Drain to your sword basically makes you unkillable.
Time Mage: DON'T NEGLECT but not immediately critical. Ringabel and Agnes can essentially beat the game themselves if either reach lv 12 to get Reraise (never worry about KOs ever again) and Meteor (constantly 9999s when used in boss battles, meaning about 39996 damage PER CHARACTER when using four braves).
Ranger: MASTER THIS CLASS!!! Especially for Tiz, Edea and (later) Ringabel. Basically make anything not human or inorganic your b*tch. Mastering it gives you Multiburst which can be as devastating as Meteor. Pair this with Spell Fencer abilities and you're basically the worst nightmare to 90% of your enemies (including the end-game bosses).
Summoner: NOT IMPORTANT. The summon animations are cool, but aren't versatile enough in most battles.
Valkyrie: No need to master this class, but it's a great basic class for EDEA (and Tiz if needed). Crescent Moon is a great skill for swiftly dealing with random encounters and building your Sweep multiplier for bonus money.
Red Mage: NOT IMPORTANT. In this game, it's better to have your characters be specialized in a physical or magical role, which is basically the opposite of a RM. Can be good for secondary class abilities if Agnes or Ringabel are leveling up classes that are not WM or BM.
Salve-Maker: It really DEPENDS on how you play the game. There are some potentially useful skills (lv 2's First Aid, lv 8's Widen Area), but I personally kept forgetting this class existed since I was so busy working on more essential classes.
Performer: GET SOMEONE TO WORK ON IT. Having a good Performer may not seem much offensively, but it can give you so much control over the flow of battle. I'd say have Anime-Elvis (Ringabel) be your Performer to make him more useful in boss battles since most tough bosses will either have no elemental weaknesses or high magic defense.
Pirate: Have TIZ OR EDEA dedicate time into this class, preferably Tiz for his better base accuracy/speed. The best strategy for this class is to NEVER use a regular attack since axes have abysmal hit rates. Constantly use your abilities to chip away at their P.DEF, M.DEF, P.ATK and Speed and you'll not only be sure to get the full force of your attack in each turn, but also give your other characters better hits over time.
Ninja: THE BEST, BEST, BEST CLASS IN THE BRAVELY DEFAULT (and 2nd best in Bravely Second to me so far). Two words: Duel. Wield. Having a shield is nice for Knights or WMs, but every other class thrives off of this skill! Also the fact that if you get EVERYONE to lv 4 and equip the Transience skill (from lv 2), then congratulations my friend! All you have to do now is have everyone use Utsusemi every turn and you're basically untouchable to any single physical attack! Bravely Defaults most devastating attacks from late-game bosses are almost always physical, so they literally can't touch you or avoid your overpowered counter attacks.
That should be all the classes from chapters 1-3, so I'll stop there and keep the later classes a secret. In short, the three classes that matter are Ninja, Ranger and Spell Fencer. Invest time in those classes and you should be golden! Hope this helps! Glory be to the Chomp!!! Chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp!
