Effort. That was the first thing I noticed about this anime. You can definitely tell the studio either knew or hoped this show would attract a big audience. And honestly? So far, the quality’s been consistently solid.

The animation is impressive. It’s clear they invested a decent budget into it. While it’s not flawless and you can spot a slight dip in quality as the episodes go on,it’s nothing too distracting.

My praise doesn’t stop at the visuals. The music slaps. Sure, getting YOASOBI to do an opening or ending theme is probably the most mainstream way to “boost” an OST, but let’s be real—those two always ... deliver. And they didn’t miss here either. That song is absolute FIRE. Combine that with the stylish and unique OP animation, and you’ve got yourself a chef’s kiss.

Now, about the story and themes—Witch Watch is kind of a mixed bag, but in a good way. At its core, it’s a romcom that leans heavily into comedy. Sometimes it feels episodic, with that 4-koma structure vibe, but then it’ll hit you with plot threads that suggest it’s building toward something more serious. It’s set in a modern world, but with witches and magic. Our witch protagonist ends up befriending a good-looking guy who, surprise, turns out to be an ogre. She still attends school, even though her future’s already basically decided. Why? I dunno,efficiency or some shit.

Both the witch and the ogre end up in a class full of peculiar teenagers just like them. There’s a guy with a body like a Greek god and clothes that look like they’ve been through five boss fights. Another guy’s constantly battling a stomachache. One dude lives in the comment section wars, while another starts them. Basically, it’s a whole crew of peculiar people,so peculiar Miss Peregrine would be jealous.

Oh, and yeah—I forgot to mention: our two main characters live in the same damn house. Why? Again, probably efficiency or some bullshit like that. Not complaining though—it adds to the rom aspect of it.

You’ve probably picked up by now that this anime is heavy on the comedy. And personally, I find it pretty damn funny. But humor’s subjective, right? So I can’t guarantee everyone will vibe with it.

It leans hard into gag humor, often riding the “haha so random” train. That kind of humor isn’t for everyone. On top of that, it loves throwing in references to other anime or manga. I think that is hilarious, but if you’re new to anime, a lot of those jokes might fly over your head. So no, this probably isn’t the best starter anime. But if you’re into gag-based comedy, “my magic failed and now everything’s fucked” scenarios, or other media's references, then this show will absolutely deliver.

Overall,Witch Watch is just straight-up fun. It’s got chaos, charm, and some surprisingly good animation backing it all up. The humor won’t hit for everyone, especially if you’re not into random gags or anime references, but if that is your thing, you’ll be eating good. Not perfect, but definitely worth watching if you’re down for a good time.

This anime remind me of those classics western cartoon, like tom and jerry, with its comedy. You never knew what dumb out of pocket stuff they gonna pull out, and its genuinely refreshing in the anime comedy space right now. With the of very well done and perfect for the show good animation and sound directing. This is one of the best comedy show this year.

FULL REVIEW:
First of all, let me address the creativity. The comedy creativity in this show is, lets say unique in the anime space. ... It is not parodying other stuff, it is not just character interaction, its not just sexual, but most of it is from the playful vibrant animations, sound design, and the most unserious random out of pocket scenario ever in anime. [Creativity and Comedy 10/10]

Next is the directing. This play VERY well to my point above. The pretty good vibrant and lively animations, make this show not pale. With also the goofy and somewhat classical orchestral style of sound directing, is what make I said its kinda like tom and jerry or Mr Bean. The animation is good most of the time, and they also know when to spend the budget for the extravagant scenes and goofy scenario. There's some simpleness yet funny comedy that I can't quite explain to it. [Directing, animation, sound direction, music 10/10]

Now about the characters. While on the surface they are pretty stereotypical, and pretty basic. One is carefree happy go lucky, and one is the gloomy serious type. However, they work VERY WELL in this anime. Perfectly crafted for the style they are going for, making for a very enjoyable time watching they interact etc. Some of the love and fan service scenes is also a nice sprinkle from time to time.

Now for other stuff. Pacing is quite well, with around 2 - 3 core scenario per episode, perfect for these type of comedy anime. Writing is also pretty good and felt natural.

Overall, I enjoy this anime quite a lot. The creativity of its comedy is pretty refreshing, the directing and production is such a pleasent candy to the eyes, and the writing and character are fun and satisfying.

Honestly I'm not one to write reviews, but this show is way more hilarious then I thought and it caught me off guard. Legit laughing out loud. Gaki-no-tsukai batsu-game level, with the situations and sh*t the characters spew lool.

All the main characters are charming and funny, story is intriguing the whole time and keeps you interested. I'm only 4 eps in and loving it. Good animation, funny story, engaging what else can ya ask for? Oh and some hint of romance to spice it up a bit. Not bad at all.

I recommend it to anyone who wants to have a good time.

Story and Characters: Witch Watch is a unique comedy coming from the author of Sket Dance and Astra Lost in Space. For those who don't know, this creator was a former assistant of Sorachi (creator of Gintama), and the influence definitely shows here. The show revolves around a witch named Nico who moves into the house of her childhood friend, Morihito, who happens to be an ogre. Nico doesn't mind others knowing about her powers as she wants to help as many people as she can with her magic, however she doesn't always know the implications and side effects that her magic will cause on ... others, leading to some interesting situations. On the other hand, Morihito does not want others to find out about his true nature as he was bullied for it when he was younger. Despite this, he still uses his brute strength to help save Nico and other people in dire need. The premise is fun and the comedy is refreshing. There are also quite a few direct references to other anime like HxH, Demon Slayer, AOT, DBZ, Fruits Basket, and more. I enjoy it when media breaks the fourth wall as it allows for a more direct and interactive experience, and it also shows that the author is aware and constantly thinking of their audience when writing the jokes. So far, the show has mainly been focusing on the main leads, although I am sure the show will give more screentime for ing characters such as Nemu, Kara, Yuuri moving forward.

SoundtracK: The soundtrack is enjoyable to listen to and works well with the show. Not much else to say here, its just good.

Voice Acting: The voice acting in this show is very high quality. There are high profile VAs in the cast such as Ryota Suzuki, Ishikawa Kaito, Matsuoka Yoshitsugu, Rie Takahashi, and more. Each and every one of the cast brings their characters to life and makes them feel real and relatable.

Overall, Witch Watch is a very good comedy anime with some supernatural elements. It's easy to watch and recommend to others and it got a lot of laughs out of me, and I'm sure it will continue to do so for the remainder of the season.

This anime was honestly a difficult one for me to write a review on.
On one hand the animation, art style, OST, and (Some) of the humor were all pretty decent. However the further the anime went on I found myself laughing less and skimming some of the scenes that I felt the pacing was dragging on for.
I have a similar take away to what some of the reviews in the 'Not Recommended' reviews have been saying witch is I honestly think there are better anime/ better ways to spend your time then watch this show as the story and pacing, episode to episode ... fell flat for me.

The opening for this is far too good for a show so mid.

The animation and music for the opening is incredible. At a certain point, I was watching the next episode just to see it. It's super unique, with gags mixed in with hints to moody drama. There's so much visual storytelling going on, it pulls you in to want to know more. And then an episode will reveal the truth behind a reference... and fall flat.

The show is a general slice of life, and not every episode involves magic. Sometimes it just explores a character, which isn't bad. With each story, the ... premise and references get farther and farther away... making the gags far less funny. Halfway through episode 8, it really hit a wall.

Nico's character is cute, and she's funny, when she's the focus. She's genuine and flawed, always trying her best. She interacts well with Mori, and in turn, so does Mori with her. It's refreshing to see a female character desperately trying to get the male love interests attention, rather than the other way around. Mori's stoicism compliments Nico's energy, making for a good funny man x straight man partnership. The first couple of episodes were funny for this.

Once Kanshi was introduced, things started to drop off. My expectation was for him to be more of a side character that pops in every now and then. Having him live at the house makes him an awkward third wheel. It steals the focus, and the gags just don't hit as hard with two funny men vying for the straight man's reaction.

Would highly recommend checking out the opening, at least. Stunning work.

When I first saw this anime, it immediately reminded me of Nourin—from the facial proportions to the comedic timing and vibrant color palette.

We follow Nico Wakatsuki, a delightfully clumsy witch who, fresh out of six years of training, returns home and bursts through Morihito “Moi” Otogi’s massive bedroom window—shattering the glass in spectacular fashion.

What really hooked me is the dynamic between Nico and Moi. Nico idolizes Moi as this handsome, super‑strong knight in shining armor and is utterly smitten, while Moi treats her like his little childhood friend he must protect at all costs. When Nico playfully teases him, Moi just laughs it off, convinced ... she’s joking—and I love that they even drop anime cameos like Hunter × Hunter. Unlike many rom‑coms (like Kuroiwa Medaka last season), Nico doesn’t resort to repetitive, over‑the‑top flirting; it feels fresh and avoids the usual clichés.

The magic here never feels truly OP, because every spell carries real consequences beyond a drained mana bar—although this anime is comedy genre. The side effects themselves become comedic gold. In Episode 2, for instance, Nico’s enlargement spell meant for Moi’s pencil eraser hilariously inflates his head, hand, and hair—yet Moi only notices his giant hand, looking like an over‑eager chuunibyou! There’s even a magic circle that sends everyone inside soaring through the sky in fish‑formation. Spells are sprinkled sparingly, making each magical gag feel like a special treat.

With a full 26 episodes lined up—Yatta!—I can’t wait to see which new characters pop up to crank the humor even higher. This is, hands down, the best comedy anime of the season. If you love a light, slightly absurd romantic comedy, Witch Watch is absolutely for you!

Why did the quality go to sh*t after the 5th episode? I was REALLY loving this...
Good intro, good plot, GREAT ANIMATION, then boom, it literally went to sh*t, its so bad idk if i can overlook it.

My favourite part was the animation, it was so beautiful, (the story too but oh well), it was nice to see this type of anime with such quality.

Moi-chan is supper cute, but is completely different on the 6th episode... I hope they fix this otherwise my rating (9) will change to a 6... I hope the villan or whatever is the one changing the animation and it's all ... part of the plot.

TLDR = Cute anime and it subverts the usual rom-com tropes.

Nothing new here. Girl likes boy, they contrive a reason for them to live in a two story house alone, boy is oblivious to her romantic advances to keep the story going.
Twist here is that she's a witch and he's a oni.
It does get one extra point because the "seduction" parts depend more on cuteness rather than jiggle mechanics like others with the same plot.

... Both leads are very cute. Also I do like that they are written like actual people not stereotypes.

Nico is ditzy and a bit stupid but not annoyingly so. Also while she is trying REALLY hard to seduce her partner she still acts like a person rather than throwing her panties at him or something.

Morihito is the now obligatory stoic and stiff character but here it's more that he's the straight man to Nico's silliness. Also he has his own interests and hobbies which already makes him more interesting than the boring stereotype he's based on.


Art & Animation = 8/10
Beautiful art, fluid animation. Everything is very livily and fits the vibe. no budget cuts are noted so far. There are some shots however, when they're outside, that the world feels empty. It would have benefited from some background work.

The jokes land in this one. Also for anime fans they drop a lot of HxH references which I wasn't expecting.
One of the things I like about this anime is that it will present you with a trope just to laugh it off as silly and unrealistic. This subversion keeps things fresh and interesting.

This show is very cute and rather funny. The story is light hearted and doesn't take anything too seriously.
While the plot of "girl drooling over oblivious boy" is hardly new, I do appreciate them taking the cute route instead of the usual heavy handed fan service so rounding up.

If i can be quite frank and honest, this show was just quite unfunny and boring. Maybe the humor just wasn't for me but I found myself kind of forcing myself to watch it. I didn't like it too much but I feel overall it's more than just the comedy that brought it down for me (though that was a big portion of it).

The overall animation of the show is quite good, which I wasn't expecting but was a pleasant surprise. The only episode I felt was wonky was I think 5 or 6 (don't ). Though that was due to a different ... key animator I think. Anyways, animation was good so that was a plus.

Story wise, I got the gist of what it's supposed to be but found it to be quite dragging and boring. I understand it can and probably will go on for a while before the main "plot" really takes any hold but I just couldn't see myself sitting through the show to get to that point. I don't see any merit nor satisfaction for me so I quit :/

Characters were okay i'd say. I didn't feel too strongly either way about them and they were just kinda there i guess. Maybe it's too early for more development but I'd like it a little more if their growth as characters was more visible early on. (But again, this series seems it's designed to go on for long so I see why it wouldn't happen early).

Overall, I didn't care for this series as It doesn't seem compelling for me to watch, and the humor was very dry and bland. Oh well, can't help it :/

In reality, Witch Watch is okay, but it’s not original or refreshing in the slightest. Some people might find it fun because of the comedy, but that mostly boils down to the female MC constantly flirting with the male MC in weird ways, or dumb setups that try (and fail) to pull out some emotional reaction from him. None of it feels like it actually moves the story forward.

Quick TLDR before the full review: This show feels pointless. The characters are ... stupid, one-dimensional, and overloaded with every cliché in the book. I cannot stress enough how bloated this anime is, mainly because of its sluggish pacing. The animation? Yeah, it looks good—but that doesn’t save it from being a generic, forgettable story. Honestly, you’re better off picking something from your Plan to Watch list. (End of TLDR)

Just from the first episode, you might think this has some original ideas or could turn into something interesting—but it immediately starts tanking. From there, it begins shoveling in every basic anime trope: the “we’re in the same class” thing, schoolgirls gossiping at the local diner, the female MC teasing the male MC in class, then later turning into sexual teasing (since you know, they are male and female in the same household). You get the idea. And it never lets up—it just keeps running similar overused tropes and clichés episode after episode.
Now, don’t get me wrong—tropes and clichés aren’t always bad. If used well, they can still be entertaining. But this anime is like the dictionary definition of uninspired. It checks off every single trope, every single episode. I don’t think there’s a single scene here that hasn’t been done before, almost beat for beat, in some other anime.
That said, Witch Watch isn’t terrible. It’s just painfully predictable and aggressively unoriginal. The characters aren’t awful—they’re just generic. You’ve seen their personalities and decision-making a hundred times already. The story? Not offensively bad, just dull. The only thing holding this anime together is the romance between the leads, and even that isn’t anything to write home about compared to basically any halfway decent romance anime.

To be real, I can’t fully call it a bad anime—but there are so many better things you could be watching instead. If you want a good slow-burn romance, watch Spice & Wolf {Remake}. Want a psychological drama? Steins;Gate. Solid seasonal romance? The Too-Perfect Saint is doing a better job. And let’s not kid ourselves—you’ve got a dozen anime in your PTW that would be a way better use of your time. That’s the main point here: just go watch something you've been putting off. Those shows have been sitting there for years anyway.
Being fair and not just throwing blanket hate here—I’d say give it until episode 4. If it hasn’t hooked you by then, just drop it. By episode 7, nothing major has changed. If you do end up liking it, then hey—this anime is probably hitting your niche, and that’s totally fine. Enjoy what you like. But if you’re like me, you’ll probably get more satisfaction finally watching that one anime you’ve been meaning to start since 2022.

I was watching my 8 episode, when i was thinking about how much boring the show is, and i was thinking, i just need to be patient a bit, it would end at episode 12. Just then, i noticed the series is rated for 26 episodes, how they can make 26 episodes of this stuff! It's impossible, there is nothing to show!

I can understand that the show can be fun or relaxing for some people, but not for me, that's the typical low effort on everything show that every season have, even so this season is full of low stuff.
The show doesn't make sense, ... it's extremely generic and boring, full of cliché from other anime that don't make you laugh at all, the pacing is slow and confusing, that's why 8 episodes seems infinite to me, in a bad way, i can't imagine watching 26 episodes straight. There is no story to make 26 episodes, characters are very basic and generic, in 8 episodes there is almost no development or growth from them. Each episode it's repetitive on content and situation, in a way that you can imagine how the next episodes would do and end.

It's a waste of time watching this show, i dropped myself after 8 episodes, watching the first 2 is enough to understand how the anime work.

If you are a sarcastic person, or you enjoy well built jokes then SKIP THIS ANIME.

Nico is just annoying. Moe is so bland, but he is probably the best character of this show.

It's just a cycle of nico using her magic, it creates another problem, moe has to clean the mess, end.

The new rival dude isn't bringing anything other than another unfunny comedic relief. The potential rivalry between him and moe is superficial.

The teacher being an otaku and hidding it didn't even make me smile. Okay we get it, no need to make half an episode about this, and ... talk about it so often.

A shity prophecy type of trope. "Someone is trying to attack Nico, watch out" that's it.

We could've had some kind of hiding their identity trope, but she lets the whole class know in 1 episode.

Honestly, the romance is my last hope for this anime.

The girl is cute, the opening is by YOASOBI so it's pretty neat. That apart? Nothing much to see.

The point is that the story turn around the same comedy concept. The whole of it being the girl using a magic, that is obviously made to be half-assed to be "funny", then it failed in one way or another and the guy come to the rescue saving the day.
In itself, I wouldn't say that it is bad, it could have been actually fun but here it is, the whole core of this cycle is that the girl ruins the day by making a mess again and ... again without trying to learn anything or even thinking that she is just a burden in the guy life. This makes the humor scummy rather than funny.

The girl is actually rather evil, not by purpose but by lack of introspection. She fails, then keeps on going through without taking in the failure. Every "ordeal" she faces, she just tries to run away from them using her magic, completely forgetting that she worsened them every time. She even put down the guy, just for making other people not liking him.
The result being that she feels childish more than anything. It's like having a spoiled 5 years old in a high-school student.
It isn't bad writing though, her personality comes from a sheltered life that can be explained by the guy existence. As a child, he was always helping her and even now, he only sees her as someone to protect and keep on wiping her mess at every turn. Someone that never faced the consequences of its actions can't grow from them. And the guy lack of romance in their interaction can be explained by this one-sided relationship, making the whole comical side coherent.
There is just a problem in this logic being that the girl wasn't at the guy side since about 10 years and the few glimpses of her mother shown that she knows that spoiling her is a mistake, so... Well, I suppose nobody care that much of an in deep writing anyway, the whole witch thingy is already not well developed with the world also so whatever.

I suppose it can be funny, if you go blind of the girl selfishness, but I wasn't able to ignore it and it is really here at every turn, making their interactions rather disgusting.
